Two more 24 m cats join Captain Cook Cruises fleet

AUGUST 12, 2014 — Two more 24 m Incat Crowther design catamaran passenger ferries have joined the fleet of Australia’s Captain Cook Cruises.

Built by Tasmanian shipyard Richardson Devine Marine, the vessels — the Mary Reibey and Annabelle Rankin — follow the Elizabeth Cook, delivered last year.

During the development of this new class of vessel, efforts were made to reduce through-life operating costs, including a focus on low fuel usage and reducing ongoing maintenance costs.

Mary Reibey and Annabelle Rankin are each certified to carry 127 passengers in 1C coastal operation and 198 passengers in 1D/1E harbor operation.

An operational design focus has been on safety, specifically pilothouse visibility.

Each ferry is powered by a pair of Scania DI13 070M main engines, each developing 368 kW at 1,800 rpm .Large hinged engine hatches provide ample access to the engine rooms for day-to-day maintenance tasks. The vessels cruise efficiently at 25 knots, with a top speed of 27 knots.
