JUNE 1, 2018 — St. Johns Ship Building (SJSB), Palatka, FL, recently completed the flip of the hull for the first of two 152 ft x 52 ft ferries specifically designed to transport residents, guests and their vehicles to the Fisher Island Club, on a private island located off the tip of Miami Beach.
The shipyard is on schedule with both vessels and this first ferry is set for a December delivery to Miami.
“As owner’s representative for the Fisher Island Ferry Project, S&Y Marine Corporation has been very impressed with the work at St. Johns Ship Building, said Shaun L. Preacher, Owner’s Representative. “The production and build has been on schedule, the workmanship first rate, and the work force very professional. At it’s current pace the two hulls, Hull 88 and 89, should be delivered on schedule and as planned.”
Other recent jobs at St. Johns include the delivery of the 25 ft truckable tug Iron Horse. This is the most recent of SJSB’s “Iron Series’ of truckable tug boats. These versatile work horses are a staple for the marine construction industry.
The shipyard has also had the research vessel OCearch on drydock for repairs and is nearing completion of another 190 ft landing craft for Caribbean cargo transportation.
SJSB recently closed a contract with Vane Brothers to convert the last two tugs of its Elizabeth Anne series to ATB type vessels.
