Electric Propulsion for a Rural ROPax ferry
Written by Nick BlenkeyAmong the speakers presenting at Marine Log’s FERRIES 2019 conference in November will be Will Moon, PE, Senior Naval Architect, Glosten, and Capt. Rachel Rowe, Ferry Operations Division Manager, Skagit County, Wash.
Moon, is a Senior Naval Architect at Glosten, a full-service marine consultancy based in Seattle. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and is a professionally licensed naval architect in the state of Washington. Since joining Glosten in 2004, Moon has provided naval architectural support for both new construction and refit projects involving passenger vessels, ferries, research vessels, tugs, barges, and various floating structures. He is currently serving as Project Manager/Design Lead for the design of an all-electric vehicle ferry for Skagit County.
In their presentation, Moon and Rowe will discuss the design and propulsion system selected for a new all-electric ferry, highlighting how the choice of all electric propulsion makes unique impacts on the ferry’s design, funding and future operations.
