JANUARY 20, 2014 — The four 89 m, 5,500, dwt dual fuel PSVs ordered by Siem Offshore at Poland’s Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. last month (see earlier story) will have  MEL Electrical ORO boiler plants from Norway’s Parat Halvorsen A/S.

Parat’s scope of supply includes combined electric steam and hot water boilers with a capacity of 1,250 kW each.

In normal vessel operation the boiler is part of the hot water and heat recovery loop and supplies necessary additional heat to the HVAC, sanitary and tank heating systems on board.

The ships are classed for Oil Spill Recovery in Emergency Situations (Oilrec). Should an oil spill incident occur, the boiler will be remobilized to run as a steam boiler with the steam being used to maintain viscosity in the recovered crude oil emulsion in the ORO storage tanks, in accordance with NOFO (Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies) requirements.
