Vard orders Rolls-Royce equipment for Rem OCV/AH

SEPTEMBER 12, 2014 — Rolls-Royce has won a £19 million contract from shipbuilding group Vard to deliver deck machinery, propulsion and engines for the offshore construction and anchor handling vessel (OCV/AH) ordered by Rem Offshore ASA in June (see earlier story).

The new vessel has been developed for underwater construction work and anchor handling operations in Arctic waters and will have approximately 380 to 400 ton bollard pull to fulfill the demands for operational power in the deepwater segment.

The propulsion package from Rolls-Royce will comprise main engines and generators, reduction gears, Promas integrated rudder and main propeller system with nozzle, tunnel thrusters, retractable thrusters, steering gear and Helicon X3 propulsion control system.

The deck machinery package consists of a three-drum 500 ton low pressure anchor handling winch, stern roller, anchor handling cranes, centering device, stop-pins and shark-jaws. All mechanical, hydraulic and electric systems are included.

Delivery is scheduled from Vard’s Brattvaag shipyard in Norway in first quarter 2016. The hull of the vessel will be delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania.
