MAY 8, 2014 — Rolls-Royce has reported recent contracts worth over £60.5 million (around $102 million) for the supply of equipment and services for a total of eight vessels.
Under contracts with China Oilfield Services Ltd. (COSL) worth £19 million, Rolls-Royce will deliver propulsion equipment for two deep-sea research vessels and one seismic vessel.
All three vessels are designed by the Norwegian design firm Skipsteknisk. The deep sea research vessels (ST 259) will each have six engines, two main azimuth thrusters, two retractable thrusters, two tunnel thrusters and remote control systems from Rolls-Royce. The ST 318 design seismic vessel will be equipped with four engines, rudders and steering gear from Rolls-Royce.
The research vessels are to be built at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard for delivery respectively in the first and second half of 2016, while the seismic vessel will be built at Shanghang Shipyard for delivery in the second half of 2015.
SECUNDA CANADA AHTS
Rolls-Royce has won a £16m order to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for the large AHTS recently ordered at Poland’s Remontowa shipyard by Secunda Canada, which is 50% owned by Siem Offshore.
The advanced vessel will be of type UT 782 WP design.
The wave piercing (WP) design has been optimized bow to stern for the demanding scope and harsh North Atlantic conditions, and includes the latest technologies to increase safety for vessel crew and operations. At the heart of the vessel is a robust hybrid propulsion system from Rolls-Royce which increases the vessel’s operational redundancy and minimizes impact to the environment through low fuel consumption.
John Knudsen, Rolls-Royce, President Offshore, said: “It is a great pleasure to be able to announce a new contract which involves both a new yard and a new shipowner to us. This will be the first AHTS vessel equipped with the innovative Unified Bridge from Rolls-Royce, and also the first vessel with our innovative wave piercing bow design to enter the North American market.”
The Rolls-Royce designed UT 782 WP anchor handling vessels will encompass integrated systems provided by Rolls-Royce, including applications for propulsion, power generation, automation, deck machinery and cargo handling. The overall length of the vessel will be 87.3 metres with a beam of 20 metres and a dead weight of approximately 4000 tons.
The vessel will be ready for delivery in the second half of 2015.
TWO FOR ABERDEEN OWNER
Under an £11.5 million contract, Rolls-Royce will design and deliver integrated ship equipment for two UT 755 LC design platform supply vessels (PSVs). The two vessels are to be built by Norwegian yard Simek for Aberdeen-based owner Fletcher Shipping Ltd.
The first vessel is under construction and will be delivered in November 2014. The second will follow in April 2015.
“Simek and Rolls-Royce have been working together for a number of years and these vessels represent the yard’s 25th and 26th UT design build,” said Mr. Knudsen. “Fletcher’s fleet of vessels, which will increase to six with this order, consists solely of UT-designs. The contract further strengthens our valued relationship with both companies.”
The Rolls-Royce deliveries include design, main-engines, generators, thrusters, switchboards, deck machinery, bulk handling systems and dynamic positions systems. Both vessels have class notations as CLEAN and COMF-V(3) for environmental concerns and are low level on noise and vibrations.
TWO FOR ISLAND OFFSHORE
Rolls-Royce has won a £14 million order to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for two UT 717 CDX platform supply vessels ordered from Vard by Island Offshore.
In 2011 and 2012 Island Offshore placed orders for four vessels of the same design type, three of which have already been delivered, the most recent delivery being Island Dawn.
The two new vessels on order will be 1.5 meters wider than the previous four, their dimensions being 86 m loa with a beam of 18.5 m and a deadweight of approximately 4,200 DWT
They will have an integrated power and propulsion system incorporating main engines, reduction gears, controllable pitch propellers, bow and stern thrusters, steering gears, deck machinery, a dry bulk system and an automation and control system. .
They are to be built at the Vard shipyard in Brevik, Norway and will be ready for delivery in 2015.
