64m-PSVAUGUST 17, 2012—Singapore’s Miclyn Express Offshore (MEO) recently laid the keel for the first of two 64m, 2,000-dwt Platform Supply Vessels at its Batam-based PT Loh & Loh shipyard.

Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, MEO charters vessels for the offshore oil and gas market for Southeast Asia, Australia and the Middle East. It has initially ordered two Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), with the possibility of constructing additional vessels in the future.

MEO is building these high spec vessels to fill the gap in what it sees as an aging and under invested sub category of the PSV market. MEO is working closely with Singapore’s Focal Marine Pte Ltd., a specialist in marine accommodations and interiors, to develop a PSV that will be highly versatile to match a diverse market.

Each PSV will have a full Niigata main propulsion package, including azimuth drives. Besides the azimuth drives, each vessel will be outfitted with two tunnel thrusters to provide a very solid Dynamic Positioning footprint for the vessels when operating in ROV support functions. To fully benefit from the its strong DP configuration, each vessel will also be SPS 2008 compliant with a total accommodation for 60 persons and 500m2 of clear deck area space.  Each vessel will have ample tank capacity for dry bulk and bulk liquids (muds, brine, drill water, fuel, etc.), as well as a dedicated integral tank of 80m3 for methanol.

Two 8,200 bhp Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels are also under construction at the Batam shipyard for delivery in 2013.
