ilanIsrael’s Port of Haifa has added another Voith Water Tractor to the tug fleet that ensures the safe berthing of containerships at the port.

Delivered by Spain’s Boluda Shipyards, the 31.5 m x 12.5 m Ilan, which entered service in Haifa last month, has a bollard pull of 70 tons, substantially above the the port’s existing Voith Water Tractors. The Ariel, Eithanah 2, Edvah and Amatzia 2 have bollard pull values of 30, 35 and 55 tons respectively. All vessels use the Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) propulsion system.

It is not only the bollard pull of 70 tons that makes the Ilan stand out. In addition to the two type 32R5/265-2 VSPs , powered by two MAN-B&W 8L27/38 diesels producing 2,670 kW diesel each, there is more Voith to this vessel: For the first time, Voith not only delivered the complete propulsion system but also provided the basic design of the tug in cooperation with the shipbuilder. Voith delivered the VSPs and other propulsion system components, carried out the project planning for the entire steel structure, performed all necessary strength calculations, compiled the stability documentation and provided the design and arrangement of anchor, towing and mooring equipment.
