MAY 18, 2014—Canada’s Atlantic Towing will add four new Platform Supply Vessels to its fleet, after securing long-term contract with ExxonMobil Canada Properties and Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. to support the Hibernia and Hebron offshore oil projects in Eastern Canada. The Hibernia platform is almost 200 miles off of the coast of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada. The contract is for 10 years, plus 15 years of options at the charterer’s discretion.

While few details were available as of this posting, what is known is that the Platform Supply Vessels will be designed and built by Dutch Damen Shipyards Group. The PSVs will be diesel-electric, with Clean Design class and Damen’s wave piercing bow design. The first of the new PSVs will be delivered in 2016.

This past March, Damen delivered the World Sapphire, the last of six Damen PSV 3300 design vessels to Norway’s World Wide Supply AS. Like its sisters, the World Sapphire was 80.1 meters in length, with a 1,500-tonne deck capacity, DP2 class, with Damen’s distinctive wave piercing bow.

“ExxonMobil has been a valued customer and we are proud and honored to have the opportunity to support the Hibernia and Hebron operations offshore Newfoundland and Labrador with the highest standard of safety and service,” said Wayne Power, Vice President, Atlantic Towing.

Sean Leet, Atlantic Towing’s General Manager, said the contract was the largest in the company’s history and would create 100 new seafaring positions.
