JULY 27, 2015 — Spanish shipbuilder Zamakona Yards reports that its Santurce shipyard has completed the tuna freezer vessel Euskadi Alai for Echebestar Group member Bermeo.

The 82.98 m Euskadi Alai is the third of the three sister vessels built by Zamakona for Bermeo and is to join those vessels, Izaro and Jai Alai, in Indian Ocean fishing activities.

The three vessels feature aluminum superstructure and bridge, ultra freezing tunnels at – 60 Cº and have safe areas with anti-piracy protection.

A new system of for the separation of caught fish  returns non-target fish to the sea alive with minimal human intervention as part of Echebestar’s commitment to sustainable fisheries and quality.

Currently the Echebastar group is in the process of assessment by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), an independent organization that certifies sustainable and well managed fisheries worldwide. It is the first Spanish tropical tuna fishery to undergo MSC full assessment.
