Wartsila adds a Chief Digital Officer to C suite

AUGUST 24, 2016 — Wärtsilä has appointed Marco Ryan (50) as Chief Digital Officer & Executive Vice President, and a member of the Board of Management of Wärtsilä Corporation, effective September 26.

Mr. Ryan, who has has a Bachelor of Science degree in CIS Management, will report to President & CEO Jaakko Eskola and be based in Helsinki, Finland.

Wärtsilä says that it is strongly focused on digitalizing its operations and customer offering and that Mr. Ryan is” to define, develop and execute Wärtsilä’s digital strategy, organizational blue print, and related digital governance in close collaboration with the CEO and the Board of Management. He will also lead the Information Management (IM) organization, which is today made up of more than 200 persons globally.”

Marco Ryan is an experienced digital transformation executive. He has a solid international track record in creating and implementing digital strategies in both consumer and B-2-B businesses, with work experience in the U.K., U.S.A., Middle East, Asia and Europe.

His latest positions include those of Chief Digital Officer at Thomas Cook Group plc in the U.K., Partner & Managing Director at Accenture Interactive (ASEAN) in Singapore, and Senior Vice President, Group Head of eCommerce and Innovation at Premier Farnell Plc in the U.K.
