NOVEMBER 29, 2016 — A new video from Twickenham, U.K., based Twiflex Ltd., highlights its innovative turning, locking, and braking system (TLB) for marine propulsion shaft applications.

The solution reduces costs, space requirements, and installation and maintenance time.

The Twiflex TLB consolidates three usually separate interfaces and functions into one design package. The modular system is configured to allow customers to select and install one of the turning, locking and braking functions individually or choose paired or complete turning, locking and braking functionality, depending on project requirements.

The continuous turning design of the Twiflex TLB system delivers exceptional bi-directional performance with an option of variable-speed turning, infinite positioning, a balanced load profile and quicker stopping.

The system can be custom-engineered and built in-house to meet specific application requirements with turning torques up to 454 kNm, braking torques up to 862 kNm, and a variety of turning speeds. Complete system solutions include brakes, actuation and locking devices, controls, and hydraulics.

All Twiflex TLB systems are fully-monitored and designed to provide a remote interface with the vessel’s bridge control, and are also equipped with a control panel for local operation during maintenance and shaft positioning while in port.

Manual turning and locking functionality is available in case of power failure.
