New separator was launched at SMM

SEPTEMBER 11, 2018 — GEA used last week’s SMM event in Hamburg to present a new separator for marine applications that, it says, sets new standards with regard to ease of maintenance, personnel deployment, energy efficiency, operating costs and environmental protection.

GEA says its new separator drastically changes the working day on board. After a service interval of 16,000 operating hours, the units “Modular exchange drive unit” is replaced.

Unplanned maintenance is almost impossible with the new GEA marine Separator. The maintenance effort on board is reduced by up to 90% with simultaneous lower maintenance costs and maximum machine availability. GEA customers receive an OEM-certified, replaceable drive module delivered to a location of their choice worldwide – “Same Day Delivery” is possible.

For the first time, spindle and motor are available as “Modular exchange drive units”. This simplifies installation and maintenance of the machine immensely, the separator is accessible from all sides. The space requirement on board is reduced by 50 percent.

Based on the CWE 15375 standard, the new GEA marine Separator offers full transparency and the best certified flow rates (CFR). It is also precisely tailored to the requirements of the main engine on board the customer’s ship.

The future of shipping is digital, says GEA, and, as part of this, equipment needs to be interfaced with the ship’s management system and numerous processes controlled, visualized and analyzed within the network. To meet these maritime challenges, GEA’s separators are digital ready across a range of functionalities including preventive maintenance, proactive optimization, and continuous unmanned machine room operation.

Benefits claimed for the new GEA marine separator include:

  • Runs 16.000 hrs instead of 8.000 hrs
  • Easy exchangeable drive system
  • Quick and easy installation
  • Cleans in 20 minutes
  • Saves on energy bill
  • Small footprint and 360° accessibility
  • Ready for smart connectivity and big data
  • Adaptable to the latest fuel technologies
  • Best certified flow rate in the marine market
  • Hot separation add-on
