Third Quantum class to be named Ovation of the Seas

Name of third Quantum Class ship was announced at a Meyer Werft steel cutting ceremony

SEPTEMBER 18, 2014 — Royal Caribbean International marked an important milestone today as the first piece of steel was cut marking the official construction start on the third Quantum class ship. The cruise line also announced that the 4,180 passenger ship will be named Ovation of the Seas.

The groundbreaking Quantum class ships will debut features such as dancing Roboscreens, robotic bartenders, the first skydiving experience at sea; the North Star, an engineering marvel that transports guests more than 300 feet above the ocean in a 7.1 tonne viewing gondola lifted by an electro/hydraulically-driven MacGregor slewing crane with an outreach of 41 m. Shipboard venues will include Sea-Plex, the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea with bumper cars, roller skating and more.

The ships will also have the cruise line’s largest and most advanced staterooms ever, including the industry’s first-ever Virtual Balcony staterooms, offering real-time views of the ocean in interior staterooms.

The Quantum class will debut in autumn 2014 with Quantum of the Seas sailing from the New York harbor, followed by her sister-ship Anthem of the Seas in spring 2015 sailing from Southampton in the U.K.
