MARCH 30, 2015 — Essex, U.K., based offshore wind farm crew transfer specialist Njord Offshore has taken delivery of  Njord Odin, the first of four 26 m StratCat design crew vessels on order at Triyards subsidiary Strategic Marine that promises to deliver new levels of operational capability and comfort.

Codesigned by Strategic and BMT, the vessel builds on on the success of eight 21 m vessels previously delivered to Njord by the shipbuilder.

Njord Odin is equipped with four 700 bhp main engines, with propulsion being delivered by four Volvo Penta IPS drives with dynamic positioning.

“We are very pleased to have a supplied a ‘triple first’ to our client,” says Reece Newbold, Group Business Development Manager at Strategic. “Number one, this is the very first commercial quad IPS installation on a vessel. Number two, it has the distinction of being the first IPS quad fitted on a catamaran. And number three, it’s the world’s first IPS version 900 quad installation on any vessel, ever.”

The StratCat cruises at 25 knots via the quad IPS installation  and is capable of achieving 23 knots in redundancy mode with one main engine down. Its intuitive joystick docking (main control, two wing joysticks and rescue zone joystick) and Dynamic Positioning System allow precision control when maneuvering onto a wind turbine, exceeding all performance standards at sea and ensuring the greatest possible safety during crew transfers.

The vessel provides 77 sq.m of clear deck and container carriage space and features a SWL 2.5 ton @ 8 m knuckle boom crane, accommodations for 10, shower facilities, full galley and mess.
