Skangas Coralius carries out first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering

SEPTEMBER 19, 2017 — The first European-built LNG bunker and distribution vessel, the 5,800 cu.m Coralius, today performed its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation for Skangas.

The operation took place in international waters, in the Northern Kattegat, in the middle of the sea between Frederikshavn, Denmark and Gothenburg, Sweden.

The receiving vessel was the 144 m oil and chemical tanker Fure West, Operating mainly in the Baltic and Kattegat area, she was retrofitted to burn LNG as fuel by owner Furetank Rederi in 2015. That same year, owners Anthony Veder and Sirius Shipping ordered the Coralius at Netherlands shipbuilder Royal Bodewes for long term charter to Skangas.

“The bunkering of Fure West confirmed that Coralius delivers in accordance with what she is built for,” said Kimmo Rahkamo, CEO of Skangas. “This is a key milestone in our history of developing LNG availability. We are happy working together with our customer Furetank for this first of several upcoming ship-to-ship bunkerings.”

Skangas took delivery of Coralius from the owners September 2. Her maiden commercial voyage was to deliver LNG to the Skangas terminal in Øra, Fredrikstad in Norway on September 14 after loading the gas at the Skanngas production facility in Risavika, Stavanger.
