Senesco to build six container barges

SEPTEMBER 9, 2013—Senesco Marine, LLC, a holding of the Reinauer Transportation Company of New Jersey, recently announced the initiation of a contract with Covanta 4Recovery, L.P., a subsidiary of Covanta Energy Corporation, to construct six 150-foot container transport barges fitted with cell guides that are designed to carry 48 sealed waste containers each.  When completed, the barges will service two new marine municipal solid waste (MSW) transfer stations located in Queens and Manhattan, owned by the City of New York and to be operated by the City’s Department of Sanitation.  Sealed containers of MSW shipped from these stations on Senesco barges will be placed on rail cars at New York Container Terminal and delivered to a Covanta Energy-from-Waste facility for disposal.

“This agreement furthers the implementation of the Mayor’s Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP),” said Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty.  “The barges to be constructed by Senesco Marine, LLC bring New York City closer to significantly reducing trucks traffic and noise on our streets and managing our waste in a more efficient manner.”

Located in North Kingstown, RI, Senesco Marine is a medium-size builder of commercial marine vessels.  Most recently, Senesco Marine built a 7,400-long ton capacity dry dock for Caddell Drydock & Repair Co, Inc. Staten Island, NY.
