Seastreak ferry remains docked as investigations start
Written by Nick BlenkeyJANUARY 9, 2013 — The passenger ferry Seastreak Wall Street, which struck a pier on the East River, N.Y. this morning, remains moored while state and federal agencies conduct investigations into the cause of the incident, in which more than 50 people were injured. (see earlier story).
Meantime, U.S. Coast Guard photos by Petty Officer 2nd Class Jetta H. Disco show the extent of the damage sustained by the ferry, which was built in 2003 and is one of three 140.7 ft Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding catamarans in the Seastreak fleet.
The vessels have two interior decks and one exterior deck. Service Speed is 38 knots and propulsion is by four Kamewa A50 waterjets.
