Written by Nick Blenkey

SCA awardsAPRIL 18, 2013 — The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) announced the winner of its 2012 Safety Awards at its recent General Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C. which was attended by more than 90 representatives from the shipyard industrial base from across the U.S.

SCA’s safety awards enhance operations and improve safety through recognition and promotion of accident prevention.

SCA conducts quarterly Injury and Illness Surveys. Blinded data is aggregated to display a representative picture of the industry. That picture, over the past 10 years, displays a steady decline in recordable incident rates. In 2011, SCA’s total recordable incident rate (TRIR) was 5.16, well below the industry at-large rate of 7.8.
