MARCH 31, 2016 — The stern trawler recently ordered from Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven by Spain’s Pesquera Ancora S.L.U. (see earlier story) will be built to Rolls-Royce design and feature a wide range of Rolls-Royce equipment.

The vessel is the fourth to be built by Kleven to Rolls-Royce’s fuel efficient, wave piercing NVC 374 WP design and is scheduled to be delivered from Kleven’s Myklebust shipyard in the first quarter of 2018.

Ståle Rasmussen, CEO, Kleven said: “This contract confirms our high level competitiveness in a tough global maritime market. The fact that a Spanish ship owner has chosen a yard in Norway to build its new fishing vessel is indeed a vote of confidence.”

The vessel will be 80m long, with a hull of ICE 1A* class, and is fitted with Rolls-Royce equipment that includes the main engine, auxiliary engine, HSG propulsion system, automation and winches

Operational efficiency, low emissions, crew comfort, safety and excellent seakeeping capabilities were the main considerations in the development of the ship design and equipment package.

“The fishing industry is about to modernize its fleet towards more sustainable operations and fishing methods. Our design and equipment will help ensure that this will be among the most effective and modern fishing vessels in the world,” said Monrad Hide, Vice President Sales, Ship Design & Systems, Rolls-Royce.

The vessel contains an onboard factory for the production of fish filets and has a storage capacity of 1,400 cu.m. There’s also a 550 cu.m. packaging and freezer room on deck

.Since the early 1970s Rolls-Royce has designed about 130 vessels of NVC design for the fishing industry. The current Rolls-Royce orderbook in the fisheries market now comprise seven trawlers and two live fish carriers.
