Rolls-Royce to build service center at Astican

OCTOBER 21, 2014 — Rolls-Royce has inked a cooperation agreement that will see it build a 2,100 sq.m service facility at the Astican shipyard in Las Palmas, Canary Islands.

Rolls-Royce says the agreement that will enhance the service capabilities of both parties in order to meet growing demand from rig and drillship owners.

The new custom-built service center will enable Rolls-Royce to service and overhaul its complete. Its capabilities will include the simultaneous reconditioning of up to six azimuth thruster units.

“We are delighted to join with a reputable partner such as Rolls-Royce in this new venture,” said Astican President Antonio Germán Suárez. “We strongly believe that this agreement will help recognize the Port of Las Palmas as a one-stop-shop for the offshore industry in West Africa. Furthermore, this is a positive signal to other complementary equipment manufacturers that Las Palmas is an attractive place for facility investment.”
