APRIL 23, 2015 — Rolls-Royce has secured a contract to supply a power and propulsion package for a high-end ice-class multi-purpose vessel under construction at shipbuilder Keppel Singmarine for New Orient Marine Pte Ltd., a subsidiary of Luxembourg based Maritime Construction Services SA.

Scheduled for completion in the middle of 2017, the vessel will be built to the proprietary design of Keppel O&M’s ship design and development arm, Marine Technology Development (MTD). Designed to operate in ambient temperature as low as minus 30 degree Celsius, the vessel will have an Ice Class Arc 5 notation and capabilities such as Class 3 dynamic positioning and diving support functions.

John Knudsen, Rolls-Royce, President – Commercial Marine, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this power and propulsion contract. Not only does it mark the continued trust Keppel Offshore & Marine has in us, but the contract also represents a new shipowner customer for Rolls-Royce. We are looking forward to working with New Orient Marine and the shipyard on this prestigious project.”

Rolls-Royce will supply four Bergen B32:40V12ACD and two Bergen C25:33L6ACD generating sets and a propulsion package that includes a 1,650 kW and two 3,000kW tunnel thrusters, two US ARC 0.8 main azimuth thrusters and a single 3000kW retractable thruster.

“Ship operations in Arctic waters require reliable systems capable of operating cleanly and efficiently. As a pioneer in powering ice-class vessels we have the propulsion solution for technology-intensive operations in the harshest, most ecologically-sensitive environments,” said Mr. Knudsen.
