RO/RO gets new life as cable layer

MAY 6, 2015 — The Abu Dhabi, UAE, shipyard of Ali & Sons Marine Engineering is currently converting a former RO/RO carrier, the MS Mosa, into a cable laying and maintenance vessel, the CS Maram, for cable laying company E-Marine PJSC, Dubai, UAE.

Hamburg-based Technolog GmbH is carrying out consulting and supervision of the comprehensive conversion work for E-Marine, in cooperation with Wärtsilä Ship Design Norway AS.

The vessel was launched as CS Maram at the end of January this year and is currently docked at the outfitting quay in Abu Dhabi harbor, where conversion will be completed under the supervision of the Technolog technical team.

The vessel has undergone a total refit and is now equipped with three large cable rooms, a substantial cable laying system with state-of-the-art laying equipment and a comprehensive arrangement of lifting gear as well as an ROV.

Delivery is planned for later this year.
