Navy awards contracts for DDG 51 Flight III design work

FEBRUARY 9, 2015 — The Navy has awarded shipbuilders Huntington Ingalls Inc., Pascagoula, MS, and Bath Iron Works, Bath, ME, modifications to previously awarded contracts for DDG 51 Class Flight III upgrade design services.

The main goal of the Flight III upgrade is to replace the SPY-1D(V) radar with the Air and Missile Defense Radar.

The modification to the Huntington Ingalls existing DDG 51 Class Lead Yard Services contract is worth $13,503,584 , while the modification to the Bath Iron Works DDG 51 Class Lead Yard Services contract is worth $13,027,540.

In both cases, the contract modifications will allow for DDG 51 Class Flight III upgrade design efforts, along with procurement of Design Vendor Furnished Information in support of the Flight III design.  

The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, DC, is the contracting activity.
