Written by Nick BlenkeyGeneral Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Co.(NASSCO), San Diego, Calif., has been awarded $10,000,000 for emergency firefighting support, dewatering, safety and initial clean-up efforts on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6), which was damaged during the fire aboard it that broke out July 12. All known fires aboard the vessel were not extinguished until July 16.
The fire broke out during a phased maintenance availability of the ship and this latest award to NASSCO is a modification of its September 2018 contract for that availability
