Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation names Daniel Kleiboemer Director
Written by Nick BlenkeyRenee Marazon, CEO of the Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation, has announced that Daniel Kleiboemer has been named the Director of the foundation and is expected to oversee course development and curriculum for several maritime adult job training programs as well as recertification programs for those already in the maritime industry.
Among the first programs Mr. Kleiboemer will handle are the Cruise Ship Professional Development and the U.S. Coast Guard required STCW Basic Safety Training programs, as well as Crowd Managements, and Proficiency in Crisis Management and Human Behavior. In November, The Maritime Foundation received a $25,000 First Energy Economic Development Grant through the City of Toledo for development of the programs which are expected to launch in January 16, 2012.
“Mr. Kleiboemer comes to us with a wealth of both U.S. Navy and merchant mariner experience. His professional experience includes not only ship board operations, but academic instruction as well. He has developed and taught USCG mariner courses. He is the perfect fit for The Maritime Foundation as we move forward. We are fortunate to have him, as is our entire northwest Ohio community,” said Ms. Marazon.
Mr. Kleiboemer started his maritime career 13 years ago when he joined the U.S. Navy. While serving, he began his career as a deck officer aboard USS Peleliu, and then later as the Operations Officer aboard USS Detroit. From 2002 – 2004 he served as Academic Dean and Lead Navigation Instructor for Naval Science Institute. From 2006 – 2007 he served as Anti-Terrorism/Force Protect Instructor Training Program Manager for Military Sealift Fleet Support Command. In 2007 he moved to Military Sealift Command Headquarters where he was Curriculum Manager continuing to work extensively in maritime training. He has eight years active duty experience as both a Surface Warfare Officer and as a Strategic Sealift Officer. He is also a merchant marine officer (Second Mate) with extensive maritime experience. He also holds the rank of Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy, Strategic Sealift Officer Program and is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer.
He makes his home in Whitehouse, Ohio where he lives with his wife, Rebecca.

I look forward to using my unique set of skills to promote the great city of Toledo and to support the maritime industry that has provided me with such an amazing career,” said Mr. Kleiboemer.
He began his duties with The Maritime Foundation on Dec. 1, 2011 and The Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation’s Board of Directors confirmed his appointment at a meeting held Dec. 7.
