Marine Log, in collaboration with the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), will host a virtual event Thursday, June 4, at 11 a.m. ET focused on how new U.S. Coast Guard cybersecurity regulations are influencing vessel design, construction and operations.
Naval architects and marine engineers who register to attend will received a Certificate of Attendance.
Titled “From Regulation to Drawing Board,” the event will examine how evolving cybersecurity requirements are moving beyond traditional IT concerns and becoming a core consideration in shipboard systems, naval architecture and long-term operational risk.
The session will bring together perspectives from government, cybersecurity and industry to address how regulatory expectations are shaping decisions across the vessel lifecycle, from early-stage design to retrofit and ongoing operations.
Scheduled speakers include Lt. Will Quigley, vessel branch lead with the U.S. Coast Guard’s Office of Maritime Cybersecurity Policy; Scott Dickerson, founder and principal at CISO LLC; Cliff Neve, vice president of strategic alliances at MAD Security; and Drew Orvieto, director of marine solutions at Siemens Energy. Additional panelists, including a notable naval architect, will be announced soon.
Discussion topics will include how U.S. Coast Guard cybersecurity rules are affecting vessel design and systems integration, what “secure by design” means for marine engineering teams, and how requirements are influencing vendor and supply chain standards. The session will also address key considerations for newbuild and retrofit projects and what vessel owners and operators should be preparing for as compliance expectations evolve.
