MacGregor to supply deck machinery for Yamal LNG carriers

JUNE 17, 2015 —  Cargotec’s MacGregor unit has signed a major contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co Ltd in South Korea to supply a range of Hatlapa deck machinery for ten of the 172,600 cu.m LNG carriers that DSME is building for the Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic.

MacGregor will deliver electrically-driven deck machinery, windlasses and mooring winches, all optimized for operations in very low temperatures. Delivery is planned to start in 2017 and continue into 2018.

“MacGregor was awarded the contract because it can deliver equipment that complies with the demanding technical requirements of operating in extremely cold conditions,” says Alexander Nürnberg, Vice President for Auxiliary and Machinery Systems business at MacGregor. “As part of this project, we have developed new technology suitable for use in extreme ambient temperatures as low as minus 52°C.”
