Great Lakes Shipyard wins tugboat orders worth $23 million

caribtugGreat Lakes Shipyard, Cleveland, Ohio, has booked contracts worth $23 million to build two new 50-ton bollard pull ASD tugboats for Seacor Holdings affiliate Caribbean Tugz, LLC. To be built simultaneously, they will be used for ship docking and escort operations at the Hovensa Oil Refinery in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Design and construction are to start immediately, and the tugs are scheduled for completion in early 2013. Designed by Jensen Maritime, the 92-foot, 4,640 HP tugs will be ABS classed and purpose-built for ship assist, escort, and firefighting services and constructed to meet the wide range of operational parameters typical in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.
