Davie Yards CEO headed back to Norway to join STX Norway

davieGustav Johan Nydal is leaving his position as President and CEO of Quebec shipbuilder Davie Yards to return to Norway where he has been appointed Yard Director of STX Norway Florø AS. He will assume his new role in early October 2011.

As of an August 4 court filing with the Quebec Superior Court, Mr. Nydal was actually then the only remaining employee of Davie Yards, its assets having been sold at the end of July to a subsidiary of Upper Lakes Group. The shipyard is now being operated as Davie Canada, Inc. by Upper Lakes Group in association with SNC-Lavalin and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

At  STX Norway Florø, Mr. Nydal will replace Oddvar Saunes who has held the position on a temporarily basis since March 2010. Mr. Saunes will return to his position as a management consultant within his own company.

Mr. Nydal was Yard Director at STX Norway Florø AS (the former Kleven Florø AS/Aker Yards Florø AS) from 2001 until 2007and later was Sales & Contract Director for the yard during a period in 2008.
