Davie inks deal to build two LNG-fueled ferries

MAY 16, 2013 — Chantier Davie Canada Inc., Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, says it has finalized a two-ship contract with La Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ), which is owned by the Government of Quebec.

According to Le Journal de Montreal, the contract is valued at $125 million

When they are delivered by the third quarter of 2015, the two dual-fuel LNG Ro-Pax ferries will operate on the St. Lawrence River on the Tadoussac-Baie-Sainte-Catherine route.

At 92.0 m long, each vessel will have over 625 lane meters across two decks, allowing the transport of over 115 vehicles or 10 heavy goods vehicles. The dual-fuel engines will be supplied by Wärtsilä.

A shipyard spokesman indicated that the contract would require an additional 400 staff at the shipyard, with employment growing to around 900 next year.
