CIMC orders 9,300 TEU box ships for charter to CMA CGM
Written by Nick BlenkeySEPTEMBER 24, 2012 — The world’s largest container manufacturer, CIMC (China International Marine Containers) is getting into the shipowning business. It has placed a $330 million order with Chinese shibuilder STX Dalian, a subsidiary of STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, for four 9,200 TEU containerships.
The ships — the largest thus far ordered from the Dalien shipyard —are to be delivered in 2014 and will be chartered to France’s CMA CGM.
STX Dalian has now taken in $2.2 billion of orders this year, bringing its backlog to $4.4 billion.
