Vard Aukra delivers first Rolls-Royce Environship

MAY 31, 2013 — Vard’s Aukra, Norway, shipyard has delivered the first ship built to the Rolls-Royce Environship NVC 401 LNG design to Eidsvaag AS.

The Environship design promises to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 percent, through a combination of cutting edge marine technology, including a wave-piercing bow and an engine powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The Environship can be adapted for different ship types and this first vessel, the 17.5 m x 36 m Eidsvaag Pioner, will soon enter service on a year-round schedule delivering feed to numerous fish farms around the Norwegian coast.

Rolls-Royce technologies, featured in Environship include a Bergen C-Series engine fueled by LNG, a Promas combined rudder and propeller, a hybrid shaft generator to optimize use of electrical power and an innovative wave-piercing hull design.
