Sanmar set to deliver 150th Robert Allan Ltd. design tug

JULY 28, 2016 — Robert Allan Ltd. and Turkish shipbuilder Sanmar Denizcilik A.S. are about to mark a major milestone in their relationship.

Scheduled to be launched later this year, a RAstar 2800 will mark the 150th tug that Sanmar has built to a Robert Allan Ltd. design.

The tug, the is first of six 70 tonne bollard pull RAstar 2800-E Class ASD tugs custom designed for Svitzer to fullfil its commitment to current and upcoming new contracts in various terminal towage markets.

The cooperation between these Robert Allan Ltd. and Svitzer began in 1995, with a series of small 18 m tugs designed and built for Sanmar’s own fleet.

Sanmar’s rate of deliveries has escalated dramatically; it delivered its 80th tug to a Robert Allan Ltd design just 6 years ago on the occasion of Robert Allan’s 80th anniversary in business.T

he collaboration has since grown to include several classes of tugs, from the high performance RAstar escort tugs, through the workhorse RAmparts class, to the innovative VectRA VSP tug design. Ranging in size from 15 m to 34 m, these tugs have been delivered all over the world; from Australia to Canada to Europe, the Middle East and all points between.
