Keppel Singmarine to build two LNG fueled harbor tugs

Tugs will be built to Keppel Singmarine's proprietary design which won the Outstanding Maritime R&D and Technology Award at the 2015 Singapore International Maritime Awards

OCTOBER 5, 2016 — Royal Boskalis Westminster joint ventures Keppel Smit Towage and Maju Maritime have ordered two LNG dual-fuel harbor tugs at Keppel Singmarine shipyard.

The tugs, which are expected to be delivered in 2018, will run entirely on LNG and the project is being helped by a Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore grant of up to S$2 million (US$1.45 million) for each tug under its LNG Bunkering Pilot Program.

The 65-tonne bollard pull ASD tugs will be built to Keppel Singmarine’s proprietary design which won the Outstanding Maritime R&D and Technology Award at the 2015 Singapore International Maritime Awards. .

Bunkering services for the tugs will be supplied by FueLNG a new 50-50 joint venture company incorporated by Keppel and Shell which has secured a license as one of only two companies to provide LNG bunkering services in Singapore.

Shell will be supplying the LNG fuel over a period of 10 years under separate contracts with the towage companies.
