FMT takes delivery of 61st towboat from Eastern Shipbuilding

JULY 23, 2015—Florida Marine Transporters, Inc. (FMT), recently took delivery of the M/V Rena Marie, the 61^st towboat built by Eastern Shipbuilding Group for the Mandeville, LA, company over the last 10 years. FMT has four additional towboats on order at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Panama City, FL.

Designed by Gilbert Associates, Inc., Boston, MA, the 90 ft Rena Marie is fitted with two EPA Tier 3 compliant Caterpillar 3512C diesel engines, rated at 1,500 hp each at 1,600 rev/min. The engines were supplied by Louisiana Power Systems. The reduction gears are direct coupled Twin-Disc Model MG- 5600 with a 6.04:1 reduction supplied by Stewart Supply, Inc. of Harvey, LA.

Electrical power is provided by two 99kW John Deere 4045AFM85 99 kW Tier 3 generator sets rated for 60 Hz, at 208 VAC provided by Kennedy Engine Company of Biloxi, MS. These diesel engines comply with the current EPA Tier 3/MARPOL control of emissions of nitrogen oxides from marine diesel engines.
