Wärtsilä Aquarius UV gains USCG type approval

Wärtsilä Aquarius UV (Ultra-Violet) BWMS
The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Center has issued the 18th U.S. Coast Guard Ballast Water Management System Type Approval Certificate to Wärtsilä for its Aquarius UV (Ultra-Violet) BWMS. After a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application, the Marine Safety Center determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.
The treatment principle of the Wärtsilä Aquarius UV BWMS consists of filtration with UV treatment at uptake and discharge. This approval covers models with maximum treatment rated capacities between 50 cu.m/h and 1,000 cu.m/h.
The company’s alternative BWMS technology, the Wärtsilä Aquarius EC (Electro-Chlorination), was granted USCG type approval in August 2018.
