Aker Philadelphia Shipyard to have new micro panel line
Written by Nick BlenkeyAUGUST 24, 2012 — Finland’s Pemamek Oy Ltd was recently awarded a contract by Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, for construction and delivery of a new micro panel welding robot line. To be commissioned early next year, the new micro panel line replaces an existing one. Pemamek says the new line will substantially increase the shipyard’s productivity.
Additionally, Pemamek Ltd contracted a yearly maintenance contract for the equipment and software for fully support in periodical maintenance and so enabling continuous production.
The micro panel line utilizes high-tech Lincoln Electric Power Wave welding power sources and is based on Pemamek’s patented PEMA Vision machine-vision-based robot programming. The line is equipped with two Motoman robots and with a special welding floor type conveyor solution to make working on the line safer and to transport welded web plates smoothly.
“Aker Philadelphia Shipyard decided to invest in PEMA for achieving better productivity and improved schedule at the shipyard with new and modern technology,” says Aker Philadelphia VP Sanjay Deshmuk.
