Norwegian high school to get $2 million training boat

AUGUST 17, 2012 — Norway’s Sør Trøndelag County Authority has signed a NOK 12 million (about $2 million) contract with Bergen Group Risnes for the construction of a combination vessel to be used for training purposes by Freya High School.

To be delivered next year, the vessel is 14.9 meters long and 9 meters wide and will have a service speed of 10 knots.

The Bergen Group Risnes shipyard specializes in steel hulled workboats for the fish farming industry and tugs and harbor vessels. It says this is its first contract for this type of new design, with aluminum as the building material. The vessel is a combined work catamaran accommodated for aquaculture industry needs, while it also will be suitable as a fishing vessel for use in coastal areas.

Managing Director Roald Hellenes says, “the contract will hopefully give us a good marketing tool and help us to strengthen our position in the market for work and farming boats.”
