New COTP NY and NJ to keynote Maritime Cyber Security event

Captain Jason Tama will be the keynote speaker at the 2nd annual Maritime Cyber Security Roundtable on June 13 at India House. Captain Tama will be named the new Commander of Coast Sector New York and Captain of the Port of New York and New Jersey and the Port of Albany on Friday, June 8

JUNE 7, 2018 — India House and Marine Log are proud to announce today that Captain Jason P. Tama, who will be named the new Commander of Coast Guard Sector New York and Captain of the Port of New York and New Jersey and the Port of Albany, will be the keynote speaker for the Maritime Cyber Security Roundtable at India House in New York, NY, on June 13, 2018.

Captain Tama, currently the Deputy Sector Commander at Coast Guard Sector New York, will relieve Captain Michael H. Day as Commander of Coast Guard Sector New York and Captain of the Port of New York and New Jersey and the Port of Albany on Friday, June 8 at ceremonies at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, NY.

“We’re extremely happy that Captain Tama will kick-off the second annual Maritime Cyber Security Roundtable at India House,” says John Snyder, Publisher and Editor, of Marine Log. “Cyber security is of paramount concern to everyone these days,” says Snyder, “and minimizing cyber risk is critical for the maritime industry, particularly in New York Harbor, one of the busiest in the nation.”

Sector New York is the largest Coast Guard operational field command on the East Coast. Coast Guard personnel ensure the safety and security of one of the nation’s busiest port complexes. Vessels calling on these ports and waterways transport over $479 billion in cargo and petroleum products annually. New York Harbor is also home to the Staten Island Ferry, and a number of other growing commuter and tourist passenger ferry services, as well as cruise ship passengers.

ROUNDTABLE
Captain Tama’s keynote address will be followed by a roundtable discussion by a panel of experts who will discuss best practices and provide a practical view of cyber security. The roundtable panelists will include:

• Dr. Anthony Piscitelli, Adjunct Professor, Global Business & Transportation Dept., SUNY Maritime;
