Tersan Shipyard wins another milestone order from Norway

New 122m coastal passenger ships are designed by Havyard Design and Solutions

SEPTEMBER 20, 2018 — Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard recently signed contracts with Norway’s Havila Kystruten AS (Havila) to construct two LNG hybrid battery coastal passenger vessels that will enter operation in Norway’s coastal service in January 2021.

According to a Tersan Shipyard spokesman, the propulsion equipment, main engines, LNG tank systems and batteries for the new ships has not yet been selected.

Tersan Shipyard Chairman Nurettin Paksu calls the order a “major milestone” and a “significant expansion” of the builder’s portfolio. He points out that the shipyard has won a number of technologically complex orders for the Norwegian market.

Earlier this year, for example, Tersan launched the first of three LNG hybrid RO-RO passenger ferries for Torgatten Nord and delivered the Mokstrafjord, the third of the battery powered Ro-Ro Passenger & Vehicle for Fjord1. The Mokstrafjord operates on the Krokeide – Hufthamar route in Norway. The 122 m long ferry has a cargo capacity 130 cars, 12 trailers and 399 passengers, designed by Norway’s Multi Maritime in cooperation with Fjord1.

Designed by Norway’s Havyard Design and Solutions AS, the two new 122m x 22m coastal passenger vessels are part of Havila’s contract with Norwegian Ministry of Transport for the construction and operation of four sister vessels in Bergen – Kirkenes coastal route. Two state-of-the-art ships will be entirely built at Tersan’s new building facilities in Yalova, Turkey, and will be delivered by end of 2020.
