JMS Naval Architects, Mystic, Conn., has completed the concept design of a 125-foot Gulf Coast research vessel for Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON).

JMS was competitively awarded a contract from LUMCON to provide concept through contract-level design, shipyard bid support, and owner’s representative services for LUMCON’s next research vessel and replace its 35-year-old R/V Pelican.

According to Rick Fernandes, vice president of JMS Naval Architects, the contract design and shipyard solicitation will be ready in the latter half of 2022.
