Spanish yard to build dual fuel hybrid ferry

MAY 28, 2014 — Spain’s LaNaval Shipyard  (Construcciones Navales del Norte, S.L.) has signed a contract to design and build a new 1,750 passenger, 350 vehicle ferry for the Dutch company Royal N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming (TESO), located on the island of Texel, in the north of the Netherlands.

According to TESO, the contract price for the vessel is EUR 55.8 million. Delivery is set for December 2015.

To be named Texelstroom, the 135 m x 28 m vessel will be a dual fuel (diesel/CNG) hybrid vessel, with the batteries being supplemented by over 700 sq.m of solar panels.

The double ended vessel will have twin engine rooms and wheelhouses and redundant systems will be installed for power generation, propulsion and ferry control systems.
