NYC Ferry ups capacity of final three newbuild boats
Written by Nick BlenkeyJUNE 16, 2017 — Demand for New York City’s new NYC Ferry public system has been so strong that the service is already having to charter in additional boats, according to local media reports.
In addition, the size of the last three boats of the 20 being built for the service is being increased from 149 passenger capacity to 250 passengers, with a commensurate increase in installed horsepower.
The delivery schedule will remain the same, with the final boats being delivered from the shipyard in early 2018,
The new boats are being built by Horizon Shipbuilding Inc., Bayou La Batre, AL., and Metal Shark, Franklin, LA.
