New head of Alaska ferry system

yost340x255JANUARY 17, 2013 — Reuben Yost has been appointed deputy commissioner of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF). As deputy commissioner, ost will oversee the Alaska Marine Highway System as well  as the divisions of Measurement Standards and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and Special Projects. His office will be located in Juneau.

“Reuben has extensive knowledge of Alaska transportation issues,” said ADOT&PF Commissioner Pat Kemp. “He has been involved with regional transportation plans, rural aviation, design and construction of capital projects, maintenance and operations of state owned assets, and supervising the environmental analysis for numerous highways, airports, state ferries, ferry terminals and harbors. The department will benefit greatly from his expertise.”

Yost has been with ADOT&PF since 1994 and previously served as the southeast region director of construction, maintenance and operations. Before joining the department, Mr. Yost was a commercial fisherman and a teacher in Alaska. He served on the Pelican City Council from 1985-1988 and as mayor in 1988-1989. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education and a master’s degree in zoology
