VIDEO: Transocean semi grounds off Scotland
Written by Nick BlenkeyAUGUST 8, 2016 — The U.K. Marine Accident Investigation Branch has launched an investigation into the grounding of the semi-submersible Transocean Winner on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Western Isles after it became detached from the tug Alp Forward.
According to The Scotsman, the rig has more than 280 metric tonnes of diesel on board. The newspaper quotes the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency as saying that the agency’s counter-pollution branch and the Secretary Of State’s Representative for Salvage and Intervention (SOSREP) have both been monitoring the situation.
“There is 280 metric tonnes of diesel on board and this situation is being monitored. SMIT Salvage has been mobilized to deal with the incident,” the agency is quoted as saying.
