SEPTEMBER 22, 2016 — Fincantieri subsidiary Vard Holdings reports that it has secured a contract worth close to $40 million for the design and construction of two additional module carrier vessels for Dubai-based Topaz Energy and Marine.

They will be operated by Topaz through a consortium led by Blue Water Shipping.

The vessels, of Vard 9 21 design and measuring 123 m x 16.5 m, are sister ships of a series of 15 identical module carriers previously contracted by Topaz for delivery from Vard’s shipyards in Tulcea and Braila in Romania, and Vung Tau in Vietnam. The module carriers are designed to navigate shallow river systems as they transport modules and cargoes through the Russian waterways to the Tengiz oilfield in Kazakhstan.

One of the additional vessels will be built at Vard Braila and one at Vard Vung Tau. Delivery of both is scheduled for second quarter 2018.
