Third LNG fueled PSV goes to work for Shell in Gulf

MAY 10, 2016 — Shell Offshore Inc. today took delivery of its third liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled offshore supply vessel (OSV) in Port Fourchon, LA.

Chartered from Harvey Gulf International Marine, the 302 ft Harvey Liberty joins sister ships Harvey Energy and Harvey Power in support of Shell’s deep-water operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

“This is an important milestone for Shell and Harvey Gulf,” said Tahir Faruqui, Shell’s General Manager LNG North America. “The Harvey Liberty highlights our efforts to grow LNG as a fuel in the transport sector, and is a welcome addition to our portfolio.”

The Harvey Liberty runs on 99% LNG fuel and can operate for up to 15 days before refueling. It will load from Harvey Gulf’s new LNG bunkering facility in Port Fourchon, LA, where it will support Shell’s platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, transporting supplies, equipment, and drilling fluids

The Harvey Liberty and its sister vessels were built at the Gulfport, MS, shipyard of Gulf Coast Shipbuilding Group, which is now owned by Harvey Gulf International. They is based on the Vard Marine 1 311 design and are =310 ft x6 4 ft x 24.5 ft PSVs powered by three Wärtsilä 6L34DF dual fuel gensets providing 7.5 MW of power and fueled by Wärtsilä’s LNGPac system.
