Atlantic Towing purchases new AHTS vessel

JayaSupreme 340x255JULY 13, 2012—Atlantic Towing, Limited (ATL), St. John’s, New Brunswick, recently purchased a new 16,300 bhp Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel  from Singapore’s Jaya Holdings Limited.

The as-yet-to-be-named vessel  is a Wartsila VS 4622 design. Jaya is currently building two 16,000 bhp AHTS vessels in Singapore,  the Jaya Supreme and Jaya Sovereign, based on the Wartsila VS 4622 CD design, with deliveries scheduled for August 2012 and May 2013. Atlantic Towing expects to take delivery of an vessel on September 1, 2012.

In a press release earlier today, Jaya Holdings LImited said its wholly owned subsidiary, Jaya Shipbuilding and Engineering Pte. Lt., has secured shipbuilding contracts of about $84 million to deliver a 5,150 bhp AHTS vessel and a 16,000 bhp AHTS vessel.

Atlantic Towing says VS 4622 CD anchor handling tug/ supply vessel is an Ice Class 1A giving it the ability to navigate in moderate level ice conditions and northern regions. The ship has been designed to Norwegian Maritime Directorate standards (highest in world for offshore vessels) and carries the Clean Design (CD) designation from Det Norske Veritas.

The state-of-the art ship has been constructed with a variety of features incorporating the latest offshore technology available. These features include:

  • 400 tonne anchor handling/ towing winch
  • Anchor handling tools (centering devices, rail cranes)
  • Oil recovery capability
  • DP2 dynamic positioning system

The new vessel is designed specifically for offshore support and is capable of oil rig towing, oil rig positioning and anchor handling, offshore oilfield supply, stand-by rescue, and iceberg towing/ ice management. It is capable of carrying large quantities of cargo to offshore installations with a large deck area and deck strength as well as a high volume of cargo tank space.
