DECEMBER 17, 2014 — The world’s largest containership, the 19,000 TEU CSCL Globe, features a rudder from Becker Marine Systems, Hamburg, Germany.

Built for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Ulsan shipyard in South Korea, the CSCL Globe and four planned sister ships are equipped with Becker’s highly maneuverable and efficient TLKSRs (Twisted Leading Edge King Support Rudder). The CSCL Globe was named one of Marine Log’s Distinctive Vessels of 2014.

Other order successes for Becker this year have included twisted rudders and the energy-saving Becker Twisted Fin for United Arab Shipping Company’s 18,000 TEU and 14,000 TEU ships as well as further Becker Twisted Fins for Canada-based Seaspan Ship Management’s 10,000 TEU and 5,100 TEU ships.

Another innovative order is for the steerable nozzle of a dredge being built at a Dutch shipyard.
